The Milwaukee Bucks are loaded at both guard spots in terms of depth, but that doesn't stop them from adding more in the latest 2027 mock draft from Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman. With the 32nd pick, Milwaukee selects shooting guard Matt Able, further piling onto what will likely be a crowded guard room a year from now.
Bucks have guard depth for years to come
Milwaukee's guard depth has been a prominent storyline this summer. Eight of the team's 17 players with standard deals are guards. That goes without mentioning Kam Jones, who is with the team on a two-way contract. Long story short, the Milwaukee Bucks have an endless supply of guards, and that will remain the case a year from now, at least if they don't go through a massive shakeup.
AJ Green, Kasparas Jakucionis, Brayden Burries, and Gary Trent Jr. all have long-term deals that will keep them in town beyond this season. Players who are expiring/have a player option include Ryan Rollins, Tyler Herro, Kevin Porter Jr., and Caris LeVert. While the Bucks could certainly use some depth if they were to lose all four of those players, that almost inevitably won't happen.
Say the Bucks retain Herro and Rollins, the likely starting backcourt this season, while keeping all of the other guards who are on long-term deals. They wouldn't exactly need another guard. Of course, plenty can change in a year, so there's really no telling how the backcourt will look when the Bucks are on the clock next June, but right now, thinking about another guard is bold.
Able could be a nice pickup for any NBA team
None of this is to disregard Able in any way. He's coming off a decent season at NC State, having put up 8.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game while hitting 35.5 percent of his triples during his freshman season. Plenty of teams could use a pesky floor-spacer of his caliber to beef up the roster. He could raise his stock even further this coming season.
If the Milwaukee Bucks need a guard for some reason next summer, sure, he could make some sense. Yet, for now, their focus should be on one of the forward positions, which are far more uncertain than the backcourt. Nate Ament has the potential to own one of the spots for years to come, but he is far from a guarantee.
