Many wondered if the Milwaukee Bucks would take a closer look at Brandon Boston Jr. after he spent time with the team in Summer League. However, that ship has now sailed, with the two guard rounding out the Chicago Bulls' training camp roster. Time will tell if Boston makes the Bucks regret letting him walk or if Milwaukee will be vindicated for the decision.
Boston showed flashes during Summer League
With players like Brayden Burries and Kasparas Jakucionis missing time for the Bucks, Boston got to showcase his talent on a higher level some nights. While his numbers didn't pop off the page, he did average 9.3 points while sinking 42.9 percent of his triples across four games. He looked like a player who had a good feel for the game, which makes sense due to his time in the league previously.
Given his production and experience, many wondered if Boston could be a nice G League player who could suit up for the Wisconsin Herd. Instead, he will now likely do that with the Chicago Bulls.
Boston's chances of making the roster were always an uphill battle. While a camp invite would have been a surprise to no one, the abundance of guards in town were always a massive obstacle in his way of making the team full-time, especially considering he is not eligible for a two-way deal. His odds of earning a standard deal are far greater in Chicago.
All eyes now turn to two-ways Jones, Ryan
Cormac Ryan and Kam Jones, Milwaukee's two-way players, will likely spend plenty of time with the Herd this coming season. Just like Boston would have, they will have a greater opportunity to spread their wings in the G League and give the Milwaukee Bucks a reason to promote them or keep them in the farm system.
These two will be must-see TV in Oshkosh this season. Ryan enjoyed a surprising breakout to close the season with the Milwaukee Bucks last season and should be motivated to prove it was not just a hot streak. Jones looks like one of the best two-way signings in the entire NBA and could prove that he should be a standard rotation player very quickly.
With Herd great Stephen Thompson leaving the organization this offseason, there will be even more opportunities for these two to shine. If they do, it won't be surprising if they get the call to be full-time in a hurry.
