Bucks' roster crunch has already forged a Brandon Boston Jr. problem

Boston looks like he deserves a spot, but the Bucks don't have room.

It's only been two Summer League games, but Brandon Boston Jr. has been playing extremely well for the Milwaukee Bucks. Some have even started to wonder if he deserves a spot on an actual NBA roster this season. If he keeps playing like this, it would be hard to argue. However, despite having a foot in the door with the Bucks, their overflowing roster makes it unlikely that they'd keep him.

Bucks roster has too many bodies as is

Milwaukee's roster was already so full that they waived Pete Nance, who had a non-guaranteed deal. Despite Nance being a strong contributor last season, the Bucks simply had too much talent on the payroll already. While teams are allowed to carry extra bodies in the summer, a time will come when cutdowns are needed, and it's usually clear who is getting the boot.

If the Bucks had a standard contract open—Boston currently is not eligible for a two-way deal due to having four years of service—he'd make sense as a pickup. In his first matchup, Boston poured in 17 points, three assists, and two steals. In the second, he chipped in 18 points, three boards, and a steal. After taking a year off to play overseas, the four-year NBA player is proving he can still play well.

Boston's next steps with Bucks is clear

Boston won't make it onto Milwaukee's standard roster unless they make some drastic tweaks in the next few weeks, but that doesn't mean he won't stick in the organization entirely. The Bucks would be wise to try and keep him in the organization by locking him down with the Wisconsin Herd, their team in the G League. There, he could get game reps and still be close by.

Following Cormac Ryan's footsteps would be his best bet. After a solid Summer League showing with the Milwaukee Bucks last summer, Ryan joined the Herd and played incredibly well. He did enough to earn a two-way deal with Milwaukee and looks like someone who will be around for the foreseeable future in some capacity. That's the dream for players like Boston just looking to prove themselves.

If the Milwaukee Bucks had a roster spot, bringing on Boston would be easy to justify. He's just 24, meaning he'd fit in seamlessly with Milwaukee's new youth-driven timeline following the trade of franchise icon Giannis Antetokounmpo. The team is also loaded with guards at the moment but could use a versatile, 6-foot-6 wing to further beef up that part of the roster.

A lot can happen over the next few weeks. If Brandon Boston Jr. keeps playing well, it could be an eventful stretch for him, whether it's with the Milwaukee Bucks or elsewhere. If the Bucks decide to keep him, other moves will follow.
