After a summer of change, Doc Rivers will have no shortage of options when piecing together the Milwaukee Bucks next starting lineup. NBA training camp hasn't even gotten underway yet, but fans of the team are already set on who they want out there to start games. The Athletic's Eric Nehm conducted a fan survey, and one of the questions involved who should start at each spot.
The results concluded that Milwaukee fans want to see Kevin Porter Jr., Gary Trent Jr., AJ Green, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Myles Turner begin games. There's no telling what direction Rivers will end up going in, but this group certainly has some potential that makes it worth consideration.
Bucks fans have spoken about their ideal starting lineup
There's a lot to like about this potential lineup. In last year's playoffs, the Milwaukee Bucks used this lineup with Portis in for Turner, and it was one of their best units on both sides of the ball. Swapping Turner in for Portis could make it even better, giving Milwaukee a more versatile and better defender in the mix.
The appeal with this group is clear. Surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo with four shooters makes defense pick their poison, as they will either allow Giannis to drive to the hoop or leave open a wide open shooter on the perimeter. This lineup features some of the best shooters in the NBA, especially in AJ Green and Gary Trent Jr., so this could be a lethal combination.
Then there's the defense. Giannis and Turner could be the best one-two frontcourt punch in the NBA, but there are also three other players with size who can guard multiple positions. Porter, Green, and Trent aren't All-Defensive level players, but one could argue they are all underrated on that side of the floor, especially Green. Taking a leap this coming season could be huge for this Milwaukee team.
The significant question mark is whether the lineup would be too small, given that Trent is 6-foot-5 while Green is 6-foot-4. Opposing forwards may look to target them and exploit the matchup due to the height difference, though both Bucks have shown they can guard bigger positions at times. Rivers may want a more natural fit out there, such as Taurean Prince or Kyle Kuzma for defensive purposes.
There's no telling what direction Rivers will go in, but Milwaukee Bucks fans have spoken.
