Just like he was in 2019, Anthony Davis is on the trade block. Just like in 2019, the Milwaukee Bucks are among the teams connected to the big man. Back then, Giannis Antetokounmpo reportedly had an interest in becoming the All-Star's teammate, telling him, “Come to the Bucks, man,” when the Bucks and Pelicans were playing that season. Are those feelings still intact? Perhaps time will tell.
Would trading for Anthony Davis be the Bucks' answer? Eh
In 2019, the thought of pairing Antetokounmpo and Davis was worth salivating over. Two of the most versatile defenders in the league, as well as a couple of players who could average over 25 points per game? What team wouldn't want that? It's unclear how much the Milwaukee Bucks tried to get Davis, but it ultimately never happened, with the star big man instead being traded to Los Angeles.
All these years later, could Giannis still have an interest in playing with Davis? Would trading for the big man be the move to get Milwaukee on the right track? There is no answer for the first question, but as for the second, the answer is likely no. While Davis could likely help this team, trading for him would likely cause more question marks than solutions.
Unlike six years ago, Davis has been plagued by injury issues in recent years. Just when it seemed as if he were healthy, he hurt his hand and is now expected to miss six weeks. Injuries have been a thorn in Milwaukee's side every year since they won the title. Would trading for an oft-injured big man make sense? Not really.
Furthermore, he's likely to seek another max extension wherever he lands. Are the Bucks willing to pay top dollar for an aging player who is consistently dealing with injuries? It would be quite a bold gamble, especially with the team already having so much dead money tied into Damian Lillard after waiving and stretching him this past summer.
There is clearly some level of interest there. Whether it's Giannis-driven or the Bucks front office thinking they could possibly get Davis for a discount due to his latest injury, the team is doing its homework on the All-Star. Whether or not a deal comes to fruition, it's worth keeping in mind that the franchise's cornerstone piece has shown an interest in bringing him to Milwaukee before.
