If the Milwaukee Bucks trade Giannis Antetokounmpo, they will take everything they can from anyone who is interested. Any trade partner will be left with sizeable roster holes. This reality reportedly has Giannis weighing concerns of what could be left of the Miami Heat after a trade, as The Athletic's Sam Amick and Eric Nehm (subscription required) recently reported.
Giannis, heads up, it will be like that pretty much everywhere.
A Giannis trade is complicated from all sides
Trying to satisfy everyone in a superstar trade is virtually impossible. The Milwaukee Bucks won't give Giannis away for free. It will take a lot. Giannis wants to go somewhere he can compete for a title after a trade. The team getting Giannis wants to get him for cheap when it won't be anything close to that, especially as a potential bidding war looms.
Giannis must consider this reality with any team he wants to play for. If he asks out of Milwaukee after years of speculation and then suddenly is no closer to a title than he was with the Bucks, this divorce will have been all for nothing. If he leaves, it will be because the Greek Freak thinks there is no hope for a title in Milwaukee. The same could very well be said for any team that trades for him.
This reality slims down the trade suitors
One could argue that the Heat would still be a contender after a Giannis trade. While they would trade a significant amount of their depth, Bam Adebayo would still be in place, and the Heat could try to add complementary players around them. Yet, Giannis clearly has concerns, and as a player who will have a say where he ends up, that could derail the Heat's (or anyone else's) odds of landing him.
For this reason, the Boston Celtics, a rumored suitor, cannot be disregarded. Rather than moving off of depth, Boston could center a deal around just Jaylen Brown. In that aforementioned article, Amick and Nehm mention that Giannis has some interest in Boston because they would have more depth if they were to pull off a Giannis trade than other teams like Miami. Perhaps that could sway Giannis.
Miami still feels like the frontrunner in any Giannis trade talks, but things could change in a hurry if the concerns about their roster post-trade persist. The Greek Freak will make his feelings to the Bucks clear soon enough.
