Giannis Antetokounmpo is set to miss the next four to six weeks due to injury, but that reportedly has not deterred anyone from remaining interested in acquiring his services. Per NBA insider Marc Stein (subscription required), multiple teams continue to call the Milwaukee Bucks, hoping to flip their stance and get them to listen to trade offers for the two-time MVP.
All eyes are on Giannis and the Bucks leading up to the deadline
The trade sphere has been abnormally quiet this year, outside of the Trae Young to Washington deal. Teams are suddenly holding their assets close to the chest in the event that Giannis does become a name there for the taking before February 5. Even with the injury, teams won't be scared off, knowing they have a chance to add one of the best players in the world.
Injuries have indeed hit Giannis hard this season. He's appeared in 30 of a possible 44 games during the 2025-26 season, dealing with calf and adductor issues. Whether the Bucks keep him or move him to another team, it's going to be a while before he gets back on the court after being diagnosed with a calf strain that could sideline him for nearly two months.
Per Stein, the Bucks have yet to field offers for Giannis. While it's possible that the front office does indeed cave and start listening to what other teams may offer, it hasn't happened yet. Until further notice, the Milwaukee Bucks are operating as a team that wants to be in the playoff race when their star returns to the lineup. Some will say it's futile, but the Bucks haven't changed course yet.
If the Milwaukee Bucks do flip in the coming days, they will have options. Everyone is going to call to put in an offer for Giannis. Obviously, many of them will be brushed to the side, as the Bucks won't be trading away their star for pennies. However, there are a few teams at least somewhat well-positioned to make an appealing offer if it boils down to it.
There must be some difficult conversations between Giannis and Milwaukee's management in the coming days about their future partnership. The franchise has no clear direction right now. Part of that stems from the chatter around Giannis. Some from poor management moves. Either way, the Bucks are a train wreck right now with an uncertain future ahead.
