As the Milwaukee Bucks weigh their options for a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade, it certainly seems as though the Miami Heat are near the top of the list of interested suitors. Multiple teams have expressed interest, but a Golden State Warriors insider has effectively ruled the franchise out—and pointed to Miami as the leading candidate as of the 2026 NBA trade deadline.
Much could have changed between February and now, but if the latest update is to be believed, a Bucks and Heat trade is more likely than ever before.
Antetokounmpo isn't necessarily a lock to be traded, but it's become difficult to believe he won't be. In 2025-26, Milwaukee missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade. Compounded by what appeared to be a public feud with Antetokounmpo, the rumor mill ran wild—but one team may need to be eliminated from it.
During a recent appearance on Willard & Dibs of 95.7 The Game, Warriors insider Anthony Slater of ESPN reported that Golden State is low on the list of teams with a trade offer that appeals to the Bucks. He noted that the Heat, however, were near, or perhaps even at, the top of the list at the deadline.
"I think [the Warriors] are not 1st in line, not 2nd, or 3rd in line really at this point as far as packages that appeal most to Milwaukee [for Giannis]." 🤦‍♂️

For those who can't watch the video, Slater said the following:
"I think [the Warriors] are not 1st in line, not 2nd, or 3rd in line really at this point as far as packages that appeal most to Milwaukee [for Giannis]. We know by deadline time, Miami was the one that the Bucks seemed to be contemplating."
That doesn't necessarily guarantee that Antetokounmpo will end up on the Heat, but it certainly seems as though their competition is dwindling.

Miami makes sense for Antetokounmpo on multiple levels. For one, it seemingly intends to pair him with All-Star big man Bam Adebayo, who ranks among the best defensive players in the NBA. Together, they could anchor an elite interior.
The other reason is a matter of pedigree, as Erik Spoelstra is a two-time NBA champion and six-time NBA Finalist who led Miami to the championship round as recently as 2023.
Factoring in the success the Heat have had in developing quality role players, there's reason to believe Antetokounmpo could fit seamlessly with them. Miami understands the value of depth, holds its players to the standard of extreme defensive intensity, and has a coach who knows how to win.
The question, of course, is whether or not they'll be able to appeal to the Bucks with an offer that fits what the front office is looking for.
Speculatively speaking, it's likely that All-Star shooting guard Tyler Herro would be included in the deal if only to make the finances work. Alongside him would likely be 22-year-old rising star Kel'el Ware and fairly significant draft compensation—perhaps even including the No. 13 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
It's still a waiting game on the Antetokounmpo front, of course, but the Bucks and Heat may be trade partners this summer if Slater's report rings true.
