Jaylen Brown softening Bucks stance could be exactly what Celtics needed

Recently, it was reported he didn't want to go there. Now, he's reportedly growing open to it.

Appearing on SportsCenter recently, ESPN and Andscape writer Marc J. Spears revealed that Jaylen Brown would NOT want to play for the Milwaukee Bucks if Giannis Antetokounmpo were traded to Boston. Suddenly, Brown might be warming up to the idea, as Yahoo! Sports' Kelly Iko reports that there is an "increasing sense" that Brown is comfortable joining the Bucks. That changes things.

ESPN's Shams Charania said on Get Up Monday morning that the Bucks would like to keep Brown if they did a deal with Boston. Brown's sudden stance could very well be the clarification that the Bucks need to trade Giannis to Boston and spurn the Miami Heat, the other heavily linked Greek Freak suitor.

Bucks eyeing Brown to be their next go-to

When Spears said that Brown wouldn't want to be in Milwaukee, everyone figured the team would try to reroute him for more assets. Well, clearly, that is not the case. If the Milwaukee Bucks trade Giannis to Boston, it will be because they think Jaylen Brown can help them remain competitive. Whether that is the right or wrong stance for a team trading its franchise icon is certainly up for debate.

Currently, it appears Milwaukee is weighing whether they want to take Miami's offer that consists of young players and picks, which would open the door for a rebuild, or Boston's package that would make their contending dreams more tangible. Based on reports suggesting that they would like to keep Brown, the Bucks clearly want to roll with option two and remain in the hunt in an ideal world.

If Brown is fine with landing in Milwaukee and being the team's new centerpiece, the Heat should be worried that the Bucks won't call them back.

Bucks can give Brown something Celtics can't

Brown got a taste of what it was like to be a first option this season as Jayson Tatum recovered from a torn Achilles. With Tatum now back, he will arguably take a backseat or fight for that top spot. Instead, if he's sent to Milwaukee, he can unquestionably become the No. 1 from day one and show the world what he can do with the keys to a franchise full-time.

Replacing Brown with Antetokounmpo does not make Milwaukee better. If that is their only move of the offseason, there will be a drastic nosedive. However, if the Bucks use their own draft picks plus whatever they get from Boston to make upgrades, their contending dreams will receive a boost. Perhaps going down that path is more enticing than the unknown that comes with Miami's offer.

Whether they want to rebuild or remain competitive, the Bucks will reveal their true intentions soon.
