Brayden Burries feels like the exact type of player who will make whichever team he gets drafted to incredibly happy in the coming weeks. The Milwaukee Bucks should be among the teams looking to land the combo guard, who ESPN said has a ceiling of a "Less athletic Derrick White," with their 10th pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. It would beef up their already strong backcourt.
Brayden Burries comparison should have Bucks dreaming
A less athletic Derrick White could make a lot of NBA teams happy. White, a three-time All-Defensive honoree and 2024 NBA Champion, has been a constant presence in all of the Boston Celtics' recent success. His two-way play has been masterful, proving to be the exact kind of role player that every team needs if they truly want to contend.
If Burries can be that, even with a little less athleticism, that would satisfy plenty of teams. He has the tools. During his Freshman season at Arizona, Burries averaged 16.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. Just like White, the projected top-10 pick has the potential to be a versatile Swiss Army Knife on both sides of the ball.
Today's NBA is all about having as many players who can do a touch of everything, and Burries is not someone who would disappoint in that regard.
Bucks backcourt would become even more formidable
Milwaukee has a strong backcourt, headlined by Ryan Rollins and AJ Green. Yet, outside of that, the team is facing many questions. Will Kevin Porter Jr. return? Is Gary Trent Jr. destined to leave after a poor season? Who will be the team's backup point guard? Drafting Burries would immediately lessen all of those concerns, giving the team a day-one contributor who can bolster this rotation.
Ideally, the Milwaukee Bucks will soon re-sign Kevin Porter Jr. if he declines his player option in the first place. A guard quartet of Rollins, Porter, Green, and Burries would give the Bucks four strong options who can play on both ends. Whether they are building with Giannis Antetokounmpo or starting fresh, that's a four-man group who could thrive together.
The biggest roadblock is hoping Burries falls to 10. Plenty of teams ahead of Milwaukee in the draft order will also have their eyes on him. Yet, there is always a chance he slips through the cracks, and if he does, the Milwaukee Bucks shouldn't think twice about drafting him.
