It feels like no one expected this deal.

Since the Milwaukee Bucks traded him in the 2022 NBA Trade Deadline deal centered around veteran big man Serge Ibaka, Donte DiVincenzo has bounced around the league.

Milwaukee's first-round pick once upon a time logged different stops with the Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors, playing fine basketball but nothing that would drive the Bucks mad for trading him. However, this past season, the guard had a phenomenal year with the New York Knicks, lighting it up and having Milwaukee fans clenching their teeth whenever they watched him.

Many thought there was a chance the Bucks could get a look at DiVincenzo in the playoffs this year if the Bucks and Knicks were to meet, but that will no longer be the case. The two-guard has reportedly been traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves alongside Julius Randle and a future first-round pick in a deal for All-Star big man Karl-Anthony Towns that went down out of nowhere.

For those asking why the Timberwolves would do this, all signs point to it being a cost-cutting move.

Former Bucks guard should be a nice fit with his new squad

While being traded likely stings, Donte DiVincenzo shouldn't have too many negative thoughts about being on a squad that went to the Western Conference Finals last season. He fits in perfectly with the Timberwolves, as his perimeter shooting will be extremely valuable in spacing the floor the their bigs, and his defense on the perimeter will make this team even more formidable on that end of the court.

On the other side of the coin, the Knicks now have a star-studded squad with a new big man who fits nicely with the rest of their roster. They are unquestionably a rather formidable foe and could stand in the Milwaukee Bucks' way of winning a title next season. With all of the talent in tow, a playoff series between the Bucks and Knicks would be must-see television.

Ironically, this trade went down one year after Milwaukee's own blockbuster trade for Damian Lillard. Something about September 27 gets these general managers on the phone with trades for some of the game's key stars in mind.

As for Donte DiVincenzo, his previous time in the Midwest, where he spent three-and-a-half years to start his career and won a championship as a Milwaukee Buck in 2021, should help him get settled.
