Through four games, one thing is clear: Tyler Herro is the Milwaukee Bucks' first option. The former All-Star looks like he could push for his second nomination this season, as he's been excellent with the added pressure of leading the offense. It's a long season, but it would be hard to be discouraged by what he's put on tape so far.
Herro leading the charge for the Bucks
On the season, Herro is averaging 23.5 points per game, shy of the 23.9 he averaged in his All-Star year in 2024-25. Yet, his efficiency has been excellent, particularly from downtown. Among players NBA-wide to attempt at least 30 triples so far this season, Herro leads the way in efficiency at 43.3 percent. Again, it's a small sample size, but the sweet shooting has been encouraging.
While everyone expected Herro to take charge as Milwaukee's go-to scorer, he has really embraced his status by thriving in other areas as well. The guard is averaging 5.8 rebounds and assists, both of which are new career highs. It's nice to see him flexing his chops as a passer while also showing he's not afraid to do the dirty work by attacking the glass.
Regarding the assists, Jaime Jaquez Jr. deserves some love, as he has gifted Herro four of them while shooting a blistering 7-of-8 off Herro's passes amid his incredibly hot start.
One small improvement for Herro
If Herro wants to beef up his scoring numbers, it starts with being more efficient from inside the arc. He's averaging a career-high 10.8 shots from 2-point distance but hitting just 48.8 percent of them—down considerably from the past two seasons, in which he was over 55 percent both times. It stems largely from him shooting 2-of-8 on mid-rangers and just 10-of-21 on layups.
If he can keep hitting the 3-pointers with regularity while also being more efficient closer to the rim, Herro's scoring will reach new heights in no time.
For a Milwaukee Bucks team that has needed a tone-setter to kick off this new era, Herro has fully leaned into his new role brilliantly. It took a few tries, but it has now translated to winning after a win over the Indiana Pacers. If Herro continues this hot start to the season, it should only be a matter of time before those start to come more frequently.
