For years, the Milwaukee Bucks' shooting guard position has been a revolving door of players. From Malcolm Brodgon to Wesley Matthews to Grayson Allen to Malik Beasley, they haven't found a steady two guard in years, and perhaps they could change that this summer by locking up AJ Green for the foreseeable future, as he is eligible for a contract extension.

In his offseason guide, ESPN's Bobby Marks points out that Green, who just wrapped up his third year in Milwaukee, can sign a four-year extension worth up to $89 million. Deciding what to do with Green is just another storyline - and an underrated one at that - in an offseason that is already packed with them for the Milwaukee Bucks.

Milwaukee Bucks wing AJ Green is extension eligible

First and foremost, the Milwaukee Bucks do not have to extend Green this offseason. The wing has a non-guaranteed deal worth $2.3 million for the 2025-26 NBA season, which becomes guaranteed on July 8. If they don't plan on extending him, they'd be foolish not to bring him back on that incredibly low-cost, team-friendly deal.

Yet, extending Green wouldn't be the worst move either. He's coming off a breakout year, having put up career bests essentially across the board. Knocking down 42.7 percent of his triples on five tries per game, he's quietly one of the best shooters in the business. He could be Milwaukee's two guard of the future, especially if they lose Gary Trent Jr. in free agency this offseason.

If the Milwaukee Bucks do extend AJ Green, he likely won't get the full $89 million. He deserves a nice raise this offseason, but not something that high-cost. Something along the lines of the $30 million over four years that Boston's Payton Pritchard, who just won Sixth Man of the Year, signed, seems like a far more reasonable offer.

Green could also opt to play out the season and bet on himself, hoping yet another breakout season could improve his value - and eventual earnings - even further.

No matter what his contract looks like, AJ Green should be back with the Milwaukee Bucks next year. For a team that has desperately needed young talent in recent years, Green, the undrafted wing out of Northern Iowa, looks like their best bet to develop into a legitimate difference-maker. His breakout last season may only be the beginning.
