Milwaukee Bucks: Craig Robinson leaves for New York Knicks

Milwaukee Bucks executive Craig Robinson has decided to leave his role in Milwaukee for a new one with the New York Knicks.

While the Milwaukee Bucks continue to work without an experienced executive acting as assistant GM, as had been planned when Jon Horst was appointed as general manager, they have now also lost another experienced front office executive.

Craig Robinson, who has been the Bucks’ vice president of player personnel and organizational development since being hired in 2016, has decided to leave his post in Milwaukee in exchange for a new role with the New York Knicks.

The news was first reported by Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports, and later confirmed by Ian Begley of ESPN.

According to Charania, Robinson’s job will be multi-faceted, taking on various different responsibilities in New York.

"“Robinson plans to fill multiple roles for the franchise, including player development and serving as general manager of the Knicks’ development league team in Westchester, league sources said.The Knicks have restructured the front office since parting with Phil Jackson, promoting Steve Mills to president and hiring Scott Perry as general manager.”"

Begley, on the other hand, noted that Allan Houston will likely hold the responsibilities of Westchester Knicks GM, freeing Robinson up to work in player development.

"“Robinson is not expected to serve as GM to the Knicks’ D League team. That role is expected to continue to be filled by Allan Houston, per sources.”"

For the Bucks, Robinson joins John Hammond and Billy McKinney among the experienced executives to have departed the Bucks’ front office this summer.

Robinson joined Milwaukee having most recently been the head coach at Oregon, and with a wealth of experience in college as a player and coach before then.

The Bucks had also recently interviewed the Knicks’ scouting director Mark Hughes for the vacant assistant GM position, yet no deal has materialized as of yet from that interaction, and Hughes has since gone on to meet with other teams around the NBA.
