Tyler Herro is "thrilled" about the opportunity to play for the Milwaukee Bucks and return to his roots in Wisconsin, per NBA insider Chris Haynes. The Bucks better hope so, as they just handed Herro the keys to the franchise. Suddenly, after years of having an inconsistent role in Miami, Herro is the main option on his own team, let alone his hometown team. It's exactly what a player dreams of.

Herro is now the face of his hometown team

In Miami, Herro was rarely in the spotlight. He started his career as a reserve, having won the Sixth Man of the Year Award early on. While he worked his way into the starting five, he was always in the shadow of Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. Now, he will suddenly have an opportunity to show his worth on a much larger scale.

No one is saying Herro can be a top option on a championship contender. In fact, many would argue he is best suited for that bench role that helped him win Sixth Man honors a few years ago. Yet, there is no denying that he is an All-Star talent—he was selected in 2024-25—and could certainly be more productive in this new dream scenario.

Herro likely wants to get paid like a top option

In addition to coming home, Herro is likely also "thrilled" about joining the Milwaukee Bucks because contract talks are on the horizon. With just one year and $33 million left on his current deal, he will be out to prove that he's deserving of a massive raise. He will have a better opportunity to secure that as the Bucks' top option rather than a complementary option in Milwaukee.

For now, the ball is in Herro's court. Milwaukee believes in him, and until they make other moves, he is the franchise's top option. While the Bucks likely won't push for a title next season, Herro could be an All-Star-caliber player once again. He's surrounded by an assortment of young talent that could help take him to the next step, especially with the defensive-minded Ryan Rollins in the backcourt.

As contract talks loom, it will be fascinating to see whether the Bucks envision Herro being a part of their long-term future or if he is a potential trade candidate down the line to further fuel the rebuild.

For now, Tyler Herro, let's see what you've got for the Bucks.
