In their latest move, the Milwaukee Bucks have signed Jake Stephens to what will almost certainly be a training camp contract. Beefing up the center position is clearly a priority for the Bucks, as they also added Wisconsin Herd alum John Butler Jr. to the camp roster. These two will duel for a spot on the actual Bucks roster, but it wouldn't be surprising if their battle carried over into the G League.

Even if one of these players earns Milwaukee's coveted final two-way contract, they will likely spend a good chunk of the season in Oshkosh with the Herd, as the standard rotation doesn't have too many glaring holes at the moment. After battling in training camp, they would pick up where they left off in the G League, further looking to cement that they are the better-fitting big man.
A little competition can be great, especially for players looking to break through and make their mark in the league. Butler and Stephens could push each other to be the best versions of themselves on a daily basis. It could give new Herd Head Coach Schuyler Rimmer something to look forward to as he aims to establish a fresh culture in Oshkosh.
Bucks' final two-way spot is still wisely up for grabs
Despite how active they've been this summer, the Milwaukee Bucks haven't filled their final two-way vacancy, as mentioned. They still have room for someone to join Cormac Ryan and Kam Jones, and using it on one of these big men would be a fine choice. The team has three solid options in Myles Turner, Kel'el Ware, and Jericho Sims, but could use a break glass in case of emergency option.
Even before camp begins, both players have a case to make it.
Butler has familiarity with the organization from his time with the Herd and the Bucks' Summer League squad. He also has legitimate NBA experience from his time with the Portland Trail Blazers. Stephens, meanwhile, is the more polished prospect, as he is a few years older and has put up impressive stats during overseas play. Both will have golden opportunities to prove themselves.
No matter how things go, it's nice to see that the Milwaukee Bucks are casting a wide net. From their G League team to overseas, the front office is leaving no stone unturned in the quest to find talent in the forging of its new-look roster. With training camp inching closer, it will be fascinating to see who else they bring into the fold this offseason.
