Throughout the first few days of NBA Free Agency, the Milwaukee Bucks have made just two moves, and their roster is already overflowing. At the moment, they have 16 standard contracts as well as the non-guaranteed salary of Pete Nance. With more moves likely coming, the Bucks will eventually have to sort through the roster and shed some talent. Let's look at the depth chart.
Point Guard - Ryan Rollins, Kevin Porter Jr., Kasparas Jaukcionis
Shooting Guard - Tyler Herro, Brayden Burries, AJ Green, Gary Harris, Cormac Ryan (two-way)
Small Forward - Jaime Jaquez Jr., Nate Ament, Ousmane Dieng, Taurean Prince
Power Forward - Kyle Kuzma, Bogoljub Markovic, Pete Nance (non-guaranteed)
Center - Myles Turner, Kel'el Ware, Jericho Sims, Rafael Castro (two-way)
Bucks roster is filling out nicely very fast
Sure, it might not be championship-caliber, but the Milwaukee Bucks are putting together a quality group here.
The backcourt is overflowing a tad, as there is talent all over the place. Rollins and Herro feel like they will be the two starters, while the rest of the pieces, including the recently drafted Brayden Burries, will have to fight for time. If all of these players are on the roster when training camp arrives, the battle in the backcourt could quickly become an all-out war.
Milwaukee has also beefed up both forward spots, which were a significant concern heading into the summer. Since free agency began, their only two moves have been to add a pair of forwards in Dieng and Markovic, who join the returning Kuzma and Prince alongside newcomers Jaquez and Ament. It's another spot that could deserve some major spotlight in Bucks training camp.
More moves await, but the Bucks will need room
At the moment, this isn't an overly pressing matter. During the summer, teams are allowed to carry 18 standard contracts and figure out how to get it down to 15 later. Right now, the Milwaukee Bucks will likely keep stacking talent and see who does and doesn't fit into their long-term plans later. However, this matter won't just go away. It's something they need to keep in mind.
In the coming weeks to months, Milwaukee will likely have to entertain some trades. Obviously, with a focus on youth, it wouldn't be shocking if Kyle Kuzma and Gary Harris, who both have expiring deals, were on the chopping block. Due to the abundance of two-guard depth, AJ Green could also be on the move if the Bucks find the right deal and if they want to clear more backcourt openings.
Only time will tell.
