Bucks' roster jam shines foreboding spotlight on AJ Green

Green feels expandable in a crowded guard rotation and could have a lot of trade value.

The Bucks suddenly have a crowded guard rotation after trading away Giannis Antetokounmpo and will look to trade some players away in exchange for future assets. Surprisingly, AJ Green could end up having some of the most trade value, since his elite shooting and complimentary skills are better suited on a contending team and he doesn't have the same creation abilities as other Bucks guards.

AJ Green's time as a Buck could be nearing its end

After a successful development story in Milwaukee, Green's next act of service for the Bucks could be netting a solid trade return. If Green is traded this summer, it won't be through any fault of his own but rather the uncertainty of trade returns for other Bucks players. In comparison, Green's rock-solid outside shooting and hustle are guaranteed to fetch some solid assets.

The Bucks have done a good job of retooling with depth after a woeful season, but their focus should be on rebuilding after losing Giannis. Green is a great depth piece that can help elevate a team's short-term ceiling, but he doesn't have the potential to become a star himself or the youth to grow alongside the Bucks' best prospects.

Now nearing 27 years old, Green might be at the peak of his trade value. He's shown consistent improvement in every season of his NBA career. Last season, he averaged a career-high 10.4 points per game while maintaining his trademark efficiency. Green hit 42% of his 7.1 three-point attempts per game, one of the best blends of efficiency and volume across the league.

Other teams will want to get their hands on Green

Green has been an elite shooter for his entire NBA career, never hitting less than 40% of his threes across a full season. His ability to keep up that percentage as his volume has increased dramatically should turn some heads in other front offices. For a young team on the brink of title contention and lacking shooting, Green will be an ideal addition.

The Thunder just traded two similar shooters in Aaron Wiggins and Isaiah Joe for two second-round picks each. Perhaps Green could net a similar return and give the Bucks even more draft capital to rebuild their roster.

Green's shooting and supporting skills can help the young Bucks already on the roster develop further too. But right now, Milwaukee could use additional draft picks more than it could use another shooter. When you look at the abundance of shooting that the Bucks have elsewhere, an AJ Green trade seems imminent.
