The Milwaukee Bucks have begun working out prospects ahead of the 2025 NBA Draft, and the latest name added to the list is Alabama's Mark Sears. A two-time NCAA All-Region honoree, Sears working out for the Bucks should not come as a surprise, as the guard actually worked out for the team ahead of the draft last year as well before returning to school.
Analyzing Mark Sears' fit with the Bucks this time around
Just like when he worked out for the Milwaukee Bucks last season, Sears' most desirable attribute remains his offense. Whether it's with his smooth outside shot or ability to finish inside, Sears can put points on the board. His scoring dipped from 21.5 points last season to 18.6 points this year, but with that, he took a leap as a facilitator, going from four assists last year to 5.1 assists in 2024-25.
Some analysts have compared him to New York Knicks star guard Jalen Brunson due to their ability to generate offense at such a high level. The Milwaukee Bucks could certainly use that to prevent their offense from growing stale and stagnant.
Sears also checks off the "experience" box. Given their win-now mentality, the Milwaukee Bucks may be on the hunt for players who can help sooner rather than later. With five years of college under his belt, the 23-year-old may not offer as much potential as some other raw, younger prospects, but his game may be more polished as he prepares for the upcoming next step.
Despite his offensive desirability and experience, the most significant roadblock for Sears is his height. He stands at just 6-foot-1, making him a prime target for taller guards and wings to pick on. At the next level, being able to switch and hold your own against players of all shapes and sizes is vital, and adding to the problem is Sears' lack of athleticism, something the Milwaukee Bucks need.
While the Milwaukee Bucks could use a scoring jolt in the backcourt as Damian Lillard rehabs from his Achilles injury, Sears likely is not their pick at 47. He could be worth a flyer as an undrafted free agent, where he could be stashed with the Wisconsin Herd in the G League to showcase what he may bring to the table and further work on his game, but it would be shocking if the pick was him.
