Door just cracked open for Bucks to make ultrahazordous summer trade

The Bucks are known to have rumored interest in Anthony Davis.

Just about everyone was shocked when Anthony Davis was traded to the Washington Wizards this past season, and for good reason. The big man seemed like an odd fit there from the start, and there is now a chance he may never play a game there. NBA insider Chris Haynes would not be surprised if the big man found a new home this summer, as he said on SiriusXM NBA Radio.

"I do think there's a good chance that he may end up somewhere else by the time next season starts"

While it's unclear just how much interest they would have, the Milwaukee Bucks are one of the teams that came up as a rumored Davis suitor this past trade deadline. The Athletic's Christian Clark and Sam Amick (subscription required) reported that the uber-aggressive Bucks were on the hunt for upgrades this past season, and Davis' name popped up.

It wouldn't be shocking if the Bucks checked in again

If there is even a chance that a player could be available, the Milwaukee Bucks are calling to kick the tires on a deal. Jon Horst, Milwaukee's general manager, has a knack for leaving no stone unturned in his quest to upgrade the roster over the years, and he certainly won't slow down this summer as the team looks to convince Giannis Antetokounmpo that they can compete.

Is Anthony Davis the missing piece, like Jrue Holiday and Damian Lillard, to getting Giannis to sign yet another extension? Eh. Probably not.

Davis could certainly help, as he's one of the league's best two-way players when healthy. Even in a down year, he averaged 20.8 points, 11.1 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game. A piece like that next to Giannis Antetokounmpo could be interesting, forging one of the best two-way duos in the entire association. It's certainly among the reasons they checked in on him recently, allegedly.

Davis has many red flags that should make Bucks hesitant

While Davis could be a nice piece when he's on the court, injuries have prevented that from being a reality too often. The big man has played in more than 62 games in just one season since 2018-19, including just 20 this past season. The 33-year-old is not getting any younger, only intensifying any worries regarding his injury issues.

That goes without even mentioning his massive contract. The big man will take home an astounding $58.5 million next season while holding a $62.8 million player option for the following season. Even if a player is the poster child for perfect health, that's a lot of money to commit to one player who may not be a needle-mover. Trading for him would certainly be a gamble.

The Milwaukee Bucks will likely look elsewhere in their quest to upgrade the roster, but Davis should not be ruled out entirely.
