The 2025 NBA Draft is just days away, and while the Milwaukee Bucks could use help all over, it's clear that they are on the hunt for help at a particular spot. A sizeable portion of Milwaukee's draft workout participants are guards, both at the one and two. If the Bucks select a guard 47th overall or go after a few names from the undrafted pool, it would not be much of a surprise.
Guard help is likely on the way for the Milwaukee Bucks
According to HoopsHype's workout tracker, 17 of Milwaukee's 29 pre-draft attendees are guards. Among the bunch, 10 are point guards, while seven are shooting guards. One way or another, this makes it feel like the Milwaukee Bucks will be adding help in the backcourt in the coming days.
Bringing in guard reinforcements would be beyond justifiable. The only guard Milwaukee currently has under contract is Damian Lillard, who will miss a good chunk of next year due to an Achilles tear. They should have interest in retaining both Ryan Rollins (restricted free agent) and Kevin Porter Jr. (likely to decline player option), but there's no guarantee they get it done.
The Milwaukee Bucks should spend next season looking for young players who can grow with the team for the foreseeable future, and this class may be full of them.
Among the players they've worked out, Hunter Sallis is by far the most captivating guard. He's a crafty scorer who can get buckets from everywhere on the floor, and his defensive prowess could make him a sneaky good fit in Milwaukee. Max Shulga, another attendee, has the shooting prowess and smooth playmaking skills to make a name for himself at the next level.
Interestingly - and somewhat worrisome - the Milwaukee Bucks haven't shied away from working out smaller guards in this process. Players like Mark Sears, TJ Berry, Tyrese Hunter, and many more have all gotten a workout in and are under 6-foot-3. In today's NBA, small guards can find themselves on the wrong end of being hunted defensively. That could cause trouble.
A lot of the players the Milwaukee Bucks are working out are projected to go undrafted. Perhaps that hints at a trade of the 47th pick, but it also means the front office is casting a wide net. This team is in need of young, underrated contributors, and sometimes, you have to dig deep to find them. There is already a great example of this in Milwaukee with AJ Green.
There's a good chance the Milwaukee Bucks load up the backcourt in the coming days.
