One of the biggest roadblocks in a potential blockbuster that sends Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat could be the Milwaukee Bucks' reluctance to take on Tyler Herro. If the Heat want to get this thing over the finish line, they likely need to reroute him, and the Detroit Pistons could be a team that helps them. NBA insiderJake Fischer dropped a tidbit on his latest Bleacher Report livestream.
"If the Bucks do want to turn that framework into a potential three-team deal, the Pistons are a team that has shown interest in Tyler Herro in the past and does maintain interest in Tyler Herro."
Pistons make plenty of sense in a three-teamer
Some are asking why the Bucks wouldn't want Herro, who was recently an All-Star. It's a fair question, but if the Milwaukee Bucks pivot to a youth-driven approach post-Giannis, it would make more sense to just flip him for more assets. At 26, Herro might be a tad too old to be in Milwaukee's plans, and his hefty contract, paired with him likely wanting a massive contract extension, only adds to that.
He would make far more sense on a team that is aiming to compete now, such as the Detroit Pistons. It was clear to anyone watching the NBA Playoffs that the Pistons needed more offensive firepower outside of Cade Cunningham, and Herro would be that. Clearly, as Fischer pointed out, they are well aware of this due to their rumored level of interest.
What the Bucks could net by flipping Herro
The true prize in this scenario would be Detroit's first-round pick in the upcoming draft, which is set to be 21st overall. Rumors have persisted that the Milwaukee Bucks are looking to stock up on as many picks as they can, and rightfully so. This class is tremendous. If they can have control of their own (10th), Miami's (13th), and Detroit's (21st), that would be a heck of a way to start a rebuild.
What would Detroit send salary-wise? Caris LeVert would likely be in a deal due to his $14.8 million salary for next season. As an expiring salary, that wouldn't be the worst thing. If he is attached to the potential-filled Ron Holland II or Isaiah Stewart, the deal gets even sweeter, as those two, particularly Holland, could be nice pieces for a retooling—Stewart, 25, could be flipped for more assets, possibly.
It all hinges on just how much the Pistons like Herro. If the answer is enough to give up a first and a player or two, the Miami Heat would be thrilled. If they want to get Giannis, finding another team for Herro was their biggest roadblock, and now, the answer might be staring them in the face.
