Though NBA insider Chris Haynes reports that Tyler Herro is "thrilled" about the opportunity to join his hometown Milwaukee Bucks, the guard better not get comfortable yet. NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer (subscription required) report that the Pistons have interest in Herro and are in the process of talking to the Bucks about a deal.
Bucks right to explore another Herro trade
What would be enough from Detroit to convince Milwaukee to reroute the hometown guard? Well, it all starts with the 21st pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. If the Pistons put that pick on the table, the Bucks should be intrigued. In a class as loaded as this one, even the 21st pick could end up being a capable rotation player—or more—for years to come.
On the player side of things, Ron Holland II and Isaiah Stewart are two players who should interest the Milwaukee Bucks. Both are young and productive, meaning they would fit snugly into the youth-driven movement right now. If Detroit is being difficult and wants to make a deal around salary filler, then the Bucks should hang up the phone. It's not like they are desperately trying to move Herro.
Herro sticking around wouldn't be the worst thing
Milwaukee should be fine with keeping or trading Herro. It makes sense to at least test his market to see what someone might be desperate enough to give up for him. If the offers aren't up to par, he is still young enough to be a part of the team's short and long-term plans after trading away arguably the best player in franchise history recently.
Can Herro be the top option on a championship team? Probably not. Can he be the top option on a team that is navigating a rebuild for the first time in over a decade and help guide this next era of Bucks basketball? Yes. There is very little risk with keeping him around for the time being and just seeing where things go.
If worst comes to worst, the Milwaukee Bucks could always look to flip Herro ahead of next season's trade deadline and start over from there. For now, though, the team is weighing its current options to see whether they think Herro gives them their best shot to retool impactfully or if there is another move out there that sends him to another squad entirely.
