When he first got traded to the Milwaukee Bucks, Tyler Herro's future was in question. Would he stay? Would they re-route him? No one knew. Weeks have passed, and he has remained in town. It sounds like that won't change anytime soon. Speaking to a Bucks executive, Spotrac's Keith Smith got the scoop on Milwaukee's immediate plans with the shooting guard as extension talks linger.

If Herro was worried about his Bucks future previously, he should let out of a sizeable sigh of relief.
Bucks could cement Herro as a member of their core
Unless the Milwaukee Bucks extend him, Herro will play out this season on an expiring deal. He has already talked about how much he loves being back in Wisconsin, where he grew up. Speaking to The Athletic's Eric Nehm (subscription required), Herro himself said he hopes he stays, whether it's for two months, two years, or however long. His thoughts on the matter are clear. Now, it's Milwaukee's turn.
If the Milwaukee Bucks truly envision Herro being an essential part of their future as they look to reset after trading Giannis Antetokounmpo, extending him would make sense. If they think he's set to have a big year as Milwaukee's top option, it would be reasonable to get ahead of themselves and extend him now before he sets himself up for an even bigger payday next summer as a free agent.
Of course, it will all come down to money. How much might Herro command? How comfortable are the Bucks with paying him that amount? As the executive mentioned, that is the biggest factor in all of this potentially getting done this summer and not later.
Herro could be the franchise's leading man for the moment
The Milwaukee Bucks need someone to guide them after Giannis' departure, and there is a case to be made that Herro is their current best player. A former All-Star, the guard knows he is walking into the biggest role of his NBA career. This could be his opportunity to prove that he is far more than simply a complementary piece like he was with the Miami Heat for many years.
He should be a leader for this group on and off the floor. On the court, the Bucks will rely on him to produce on both ends. Off the floor, he should be a guiding force for everyone. At 26, he is not the oldest player on the squad, but he's not the youngest. He's somewhere right in the middle and can cement himself as a prominent figure for this franchise for years to come.
If the Milwaukee Bucks truly believe in him, it wouldn't be surprising to see an extension hit his desk.
