Pete Nance was one of the few bright spots for the Milwaukee Bucks last season, which made it hard to stomach cutting him recently. The Bucks' looming roster crunch set the stage for someone to earn the boot, and Nance was the unfortunate casualty. However, it appears he's back in town, as the NBA transaction log says that the forward has signed a contract with the Bucks once again.
Nance is back with the Bucks
Right off the bat, it is unclear what kind of contract this is. The versatile forward does have another year of two-way eligibility, so it could very well be that. However, even though the roster is full after the Caris LeVert trade, teams are allowed to carry extra players during the summer, so perhaps they handed him another standard deal and will figure out who gets the boot later.
No matter how they got him, it's great that the Milwaukee Bucks landed Nance once again. While he might not be the most potential-filled player, he showed enough last season to warrant being on the roster. He's a piece who does a little bit of everything, making an impact with his shooting, willingness to attack the glass, make passes, and give effort on defense. It's hard to be mad at keeping that.
Bucks' frontcourt is looking solid
Nance won't be a needle-mover, but he's a nice addition to this group. Between power forward and center, the Milwaukee Bucks have Myles Turner, Kel'el Ware, Bogoljub Markovic, Kyle Kuzma, Jericho Sims, and now Nance on the payroll. It's a versatile group full of players who bring many different things to the table. The best kind of frontcourt rotation is one that can do many different tasks.
For Nance to earn his keep, he must simply keep doing what he does best, and that's put forth all his effort on every single possession. It's great to have him back on the roster after a short time away.
Now, with Nance taken care of, Milwaukee's frontcourt looks settled. It would now make sense for the team to turn its attention to the backcourt, which is full of bodies at the moment. As they put the final touches on this Giannis Antetokounmpo-less roster, it would make sense for one or two of the current occupants to find themselves heading elsewhere. There is still work to be done this summer.
